Pounds finds Victory Lane at IMCA Modified opener

Speedway PR, BAKERSFIELD, CA. (March 13, 2016) – Brad Pounds motored to his first Mid Cal Fabrication IMCA Modified victory of the year by wiring the field in Saturday night’s modified season-opening event at the 1/3-mle high banked clay oval.

While the Bakersfield native bested the IMCA Modifieds field, other Bakersfield Speedway winners included Robby Sawyer in IMCA Stock Cars, Steven Johnson in Hobby Stock action, Devlin Aurty in Dwarf Cars, Lee Jensen in Western pro Stocks, Derek Rosse in Mod Lites and Chris Thomas in NMRA ¾ Midgets.

23 IMCA Modifieds checked in Saturday for their season opening run at the Speedway. 2015 track champion Pounds, started his 2016 season run at Bakersfield in fine fashion as he worked his way to the front of a stellar field of Bakersfield regulars. Mike Johnson finished second followed by Ethan Dotson and Steve Noland.

In Central Valley Tanks IMCA Stock Car action, Robby Sawyer made the most of his second row inside starting position by racing to victory lane ahead of 2015 track champion Troy Patee and Alan Mendez.

Steven Johnson capitalized on a perfect handling car in the Hobby Stocks presented by H&S Body Works action by taking the checkered flag ahead of Karl Noland and Raymond Noland Jr.

Lee Jensen grabbed the first main event of 2016 for the Western Pro Stocks who ran a different format than normal. Western Pro Stock group organizers decided to run a 15 semi main followed by a 25 lap main event and awarded point for finishing positions for both races then averaged the points for their Saturday night winner. Jensen was followed by Mike Corwin and Brady Bell both from Bakersfield.

In Dwarf Car action, Devlin Aurty of Bakersfield made fast work of the 11 car field of CDCRA Dwarf cars as he capturied his first win followed by Austin Figueroa and LJ Billings. Chris Thomas got the win in the NMRA ¾ Midget main event as they made their first stop of the season at the Bakersfield Speedway in 2016.

In Diamond IT Mod Lite action, Nevada visitor Derek Rosse showed the CA boys a fast way around the 1/3 mile high banked clay oval as he easily handled the 11 car field in the main event. Rosse was followed by Zach Forster, Jerry Flippo and Anthony Balcazar.

Action continues at the Bakersfield Speedway this Saturday night, March 19th, featuring the USAC West Coast non-wing Sprint Cars along with Motor City GMC IMCA SportMods, Melo’s Gas & Gear American Stocks and the CA Lightning Sprints.
