POUNDS AND BANNISTER SCORE WALK OFF WINS FOR 2025 CHAMPIONSHIPS DURING MIKE MOSHIER CLASSIC
BAKERSFIELD, CALIFORNIA (August 17, 2025) – Brad Pounds and Tyler Bannister scored walk off victories on Saturday night at Bakersfield Speedway at Kevin Harvick’s Kern Raceway, winning the Tenth Annual Mike Moshier Classic features in the IMCA Modifieds and IMCA Sport Modifieds while also claiming the 2025 track championships. Nicholas Johnson won in both the IMCA Stock Cars and American Stocks while Marcus Wankum claimed the H&S Body Works Hobby Stock feature on championship night. Photo by Tom Macht
Rob Sanders led the first 21 circuits of the IMCA Modified feature while Pounds worked from his sixth starting position. Pounds used the high side relentlessly, driving past Sanders for the lead on lap 22. Pounds continued to roll the top with Sanders using the bottom to stay within a car length. Pounds was not denied, taking his third victory of the season for the 2025 season championship. Sanders finished second followed by Justin Crockett, Michael Scruggs, and Markus Frazier. Sanders and Pounds won the heat races as well.
Tyler Bannister left zero doubt of his championship intentions and resume in the 25-lap IMCA Sport Modified feature. Bannister rolled from the pole position and accumulated a 6.6 second lead at the drop of the checkered flag for his fifth win of the season. Bannister’s championship drive was followed by seventh-starting John Piker, 2024 champion Jason Bannister, Dylan Wilson, and Matthew Frazier. Cale Kanke and Chris McKellar won the heat races among the 14 Sport Mods in action.
Nicholas Johnson won his fifth IMCA Stock Car feature of the 2025 Bakersfield Speedway at Kevin Harvick’s Kern Raceway season on Saturday night. Raymond Noland did just enough with a fifth place finish to wrap up the season championship as well. Jake Archibald led the first 10 circuits of the feature. After several three-wide maneuvers, Johnson was up to second and challenging on the inside of Archibald. Johnson edged forward for a few laps before being credited with the top spot on lap 11.
Johnson darted away for the main event win followed by Roger Holder, Nick Spainhoward, Archibald, and the champion Noland. Jacob Van Essen and Johnson won the heat races.
2024 champion Marcus Wankum won his first H&S Body Works Hobby Stocks feature of the season while Nicholas Johnson completed a 2025 championship season with a third place finish. Heat race winner Brooke Cimental led the way on the opening lap before slowing dramatically down the backstretch, thrusting Troy Thomas, Jr. into the lead. After plenty of pushing and shoving on a restart, Matt and Marcus Wankum went three wide to challenge Thomas. Marcus used the bottom to drive up into the lead on lap nine.
Marcus Wankum led the rest of the way followed by Ethan Johnson, Nicholas Johnson, Matt Wankum, and Brooke Cimental. Lance Hurst and Cimental split the heat races.
American Stocks led the pits with 19 entries on the grounds but Nicholas Johnson prevailed for his fourth win in the class for the season. Colby Ward fended off Johnson throughout the first half of the 20-lap contest before Nicholas was able to drive past him for the lead. Some late restarts kept the action close but Johnson was able to pull out to a one second lead at the finish. Ward was second followed by Ricky Childress, Jr., Carson Conway, and 2024 champion Sunnie Simkins. Despite not finishing the feature with a right front flat tire, Kyle Wood managed to wrap up a 2025 championship season as well. Wood, Johnson, and Simkins were the three heat race victors.
