There appears to be no stopping Steven Johnson at Bakersfield Speedway.

The IMCA Stock 20-lap main event featured tight racing for the first seven laps, then Johnson pulled away to his eighth straight win.

“I have no idea,” Johnson said of what made his car so fast. “J.R. Motorsports owns the car. I get to be the driver.”

Alan Mendes led the first five laps before Ron Hurt moved to the front. Hurt only led one lap before giving way to Johnson.

Johnson started at the rear and a couple of times the cars were three wide coming out of the turns as he made his way to the front.

“The track was awesome tonight,” Johnson said. “The first few laps I figured I needed to do something to start passing people. I couldn’t do it high so I went low and surprisingly it worked. I want to thank everyone for racing me clean.”

Hurt finished second and Chad Johnson, Steven’s brother, third.

“The track was great, baby steps,” Hurt said of trying to get his first win. “I’m getting there a little at a time.”

Seth Wise came out on top of a wild Senior Mini Dwarf finish for his first win of the season on the dirt.

Jakob Carey had the lead to start the final lap with Lane McDonald right behind. The two bumped in turn one and Carey got pushed high in turn two and Wise was there to take the spot. Wise went low in turn three, got under McDonald in turn four and outraced him to the checkered flag.

McDonald took second with Kercie Jung third.

Broedy Graham took the lead on the fourth lap and led the rest of the way to win the 12-lap Junior Mini Dwarf feature. The first three laps were plagued by cautions but the final nine went caution free. Trenton Eurto finished second with Mason Ratcliff third.
